subs in the 48-53 inch range ollie and shuv but there just bigger so its not as effecient as a smaller park sub. You really want to have two subs and switch them out to the conditions. Get a extra set of bases and if there's no new snow in sight load the smaller one, fresh snow load the bigger one.
Bigger skates do jump really nice, very stable.

It is tough to make a decision on a good all around snowskate. There are a lot of sick skates floating around but, who do you have to blow to get one? It is starting to snow so, waiting sucks. For me, that narrows it down to one choice. Lib-Tech! Tested and proven as all around skates. This year they did the best thing for snowskating they ever could have by selling the skeez decks and trucks individually. Top quality gear and a wide range of uses. If you would like to cruse groomers with style in up to about 4" or so of fresh and jam the parks more get the 40ish. If you want to haul balls and carve on groomers and in a little deeper stuff get the 48" The 48" is more stable on landing airs and probably the way I would go for a first all around ski. If it is steep enough it works pretty good in deeper snow too. Just get the ski then some Rocker trucks. The lib top deck is bomber and will last a long time so if you can, get that too. If you are anywhere on the west coast you can try some demo gear. Can't go wrong with a Lib Rockers.

So, for learning, I would be looking for a 48-ish inch sub deck, any specific brands too look for/stay away from?
What top deck to buy? i was thinking something around 40 inches.. also what Rocker trucks to look at? Ive seen posts saying to get the glam if you ride fakie and punks of you dont, and some posts saying opposite. I would be riding fakie a little bit. any help?

yeah joe, you are funny. hopefully your beard is long cause i hate it when they are scratchy. i will have boards available early dec on sale for $299. (41"standard and 36" mini completes) now joe, dont get too hyphy over the new pricing since i owe you a few for your store because i am kicking you down a bonus complete so you can honor the new price without taking a hit. other than that if you are in a major rush and cant wait i suggest hitting up chiller, circuit, pioneer, or minus seven. they might have what you crave available. if worse comes to worse you can go to scheels or zumiez and get a lib.

The 48 sub is good but, if you are just learning you might like something shorter in the 40 range. The shorter ski rides a little slower and can be controlled more easily. I like both Ralston and Lib-Tech. If you can wait a month that 41" Ralston at $299 sounds like a good deal. The complete comes with everything you want. Ski, deck, EVA foam grip, Rocker Trucks, ready to ride out of the box. If you go for the Lib-Tech get the Punk Rockers ($65.00). One truck with double pivot is enough to allow the ski to flex. The easy way to go is get the lib complete so you get the top deck too. (339.95 + shipping) You will need a leash for resort riding. I have put Pool King decks on everything for the past year. There are a couple that work really well. I Just did a custom Lib complete for $345

Now I am not trying to get Active. Especially not with Ralston Snowskates. Snowskaters building snowskates for snowskaters to promote snowskating??? The new price is cool with me. But, we will see hyphe at the Ralston Cup this year. Bending corners in the ElCo on 4s to the spot with the big chips because you know I am a ballaholic.

Would love to see a few pics of those Pool King customs SNOSK8. Those decks look awesome.
SkullSkates transition decks out of PD's Hot Shop in Vancouver look like they would make great top decks too. If you are ever in Vancouver, its great shop to check out.
....still waiting for my Rockers

Lib Tech bah, why are they selling a board with bent metal trucks that are garbage? If you buy a lib, you're going to have to wait for rocker trucks at some point anyway. Buy from a snowkater, not a snowboarder. Pound a banana up yours Lib Tech.

Slow does not even begin to describe this winter. A bit rocky yet but awesome turns yesterday but heading north might have to happen.

Are those PoolKing Tatums good for snow right off the bat, or do they need to be coated with a Marine sealant?

So far so good. The power tool has been set up for almost a year with mo sign of water damage. I am sure a coat of clear acrylic will make it last longer.
