Winter doesnt suck snowskate jam

Hey guys,
It looks like i will be organizing the first snowskate competition ever here in Winnipeg. Although only the single decks are currently being sold here i wanted to try and appeal to bideckers too. It looks like we may have a couple local sponsors to set up some prizes ect. We should have a good setup that we may be able to customize at the forks including boxes, wedges, rails ect. If anyone has any input or suggestions that would be great. Just remember this is the prairies so we will not be using a mountain but an urban snowpark. If you guys saw my 10/11 video that is the basic setup we will be working with. Ill probably purchase some bideck related prizes but, if there is anyone that would like to contribute some small shwag for prizes it would be good advertisement in a relatively untapped market and would help bring more bideckers to the comp. We plan on putting lots of effort out for posters/ advertising and setup to try and make this a decent event. Still working on dates/ prizes/ ect with the locals so more details to come. Trying to build this local scene from the ground up, gotta start somewhere. hopefully more details after some intense ground work today. Wish me luck.

Good luck man, this is a great project, you may need a few Banshee bungee for the bi-decks. keep us informed.

Fuckin awesome! The Forks is so rad. I lived in Winnipeg for a while on and off, and have recently been trying to get some snowskate interest going there as well. Particularly with the female skateboard community. Do you know Betty Mag at all? Don't know what I can do to help besides spread the word when you get a date. Good for you though, as in good for us all. Gota start somewhere. Out of curiosity who sells single decks there?? I doubt Green Apple has gotten on that tip and same for Sk8 Skates..?
Keep up the hard work and best of luck!

hey cool! well ive read the mag but im not too sure of the person behind it. Just working on the proposal to the forks, hopefully it goes well. As for single decks,... last year boarders anonymous were the only ones sellin them i think and sold out of their ambitions. I hear that Kings will have ambitions this year and not sure what brand b.a. will have. No green apple or sk8 hasnt picked up on it. I stopped going to sk8 when they looked at me like i was from another planet just because i was looking for risers.

yeah I stopped going to Sk8 because they're kind of a bunch of assholes..this summer they wouldn't let a talented 12 year old register for their skate camp because she was a girl. Bah! Anyways, How is the proposal coming? Have you submitted it yet? Would be so awesome for you to pull this off, way rad! I'd unfortunately only be able to make it if was either December or late March cause I'll be way way out of town.. I'm guessing you're shooting for right in the middle of that eh? Any tentative dates yet? That's such a sick spot..I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that everything works out. Is there anything I can do from here? Let me know if you want a hand with editing or anything, would love to help.
How much snow is there right now anyways? Have you gotten to get a fair bit of riding in? STILL waiting here, just one beautiful night of snow when I was visiting in Minneapolis otherwise nada but rock hard ground.
Wow, that was a lot of questions for a reply I'm not sure that you'll ever read.
Keep up the good work!
cheers

Yah.. sk8 has turned into a boutique since they moved to the forks market. Seems green apple is now, how sk8 used to be. Well i can say that the proposal looks really good, handed in and we are waiting on the final word. From what i hear it is a really good chance because there has been snowboard comps there in the past. Of course the date we are shooting for is February 4th so looks like you guessed about right. I dont know of any ladies that snowskate out here, but ive heard rumors...
There seems like there is alot of support for the idea. Sponsors sound pretty solid but waiting to confirm the date to secure more. I want to thank everyone for the encouraging words, this thing should be awesome, groundbreaking at the least. And stay tuned!
As for the snowsituaton, its not great here a couple inches and bare in alot of spots. Just enough snow to make a kicker if you bring a shovel. -29 last night and supposed to be +1 on sunday so it better snow!! Ive got a little crew going to the holiday mtn opening on sat, should be fun. Ive had alot of time to do riding with a couple people to get back in the groove, mostly kickers along the river and such.
cant wait to finalize this thing.

The forks sets up a snowboard park right beside the skatepark, it will be held there.
